Section 116 - Taking gratification in order to influence public officer.

Whoever accepts or obtains or agrees to accept or attempts to obtain from a person for himself or for any other person any gratification whatever whether pecuniary or otherwise as a motive or reward for inducing by corrupt or illegal means a public officer-

(a) to do or forbear to do an official act; or

(b) in the exercise of the official functions of the public officer to show favour or disfavour to any person; or

(c) to render or attempt to render service or disservice to a person with a department of the public service or with a public officer as such, shall be punished with imprisonment for a term which may extend to three years or with fine or with both.
