Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how Lumos Global Studio("Lumos", "we", "us", or "our") collects, uses, and protects information across the mobile applications and this website that we publish and operate. We build legal-reference apps, a legal Q&A and consultation platform, and games. Because our apps differ in what they do, this policy covers rules that apply to all of our apps as well as sections specific to individual apps that collect additional information.

1. Scope of This Policy

This policy applies to the following apps published by Lumos Global Studio on the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, and to any future apps we publish that link to this policy:

It also applies to lumosglobalstudio.com and any contact or feedback forms hosted on it. Where an app collects information beyond what is described in the general sections below, that is called out specifically in Section 3.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information collected automatically

Our legal-reference apps (Nigeria Criminal Code Act, Nigeria Penal Code Act, ACJA, 2015, Nigerian Evidence Act 2011, Nigerian Land Use Act, CAMA 2020, Electoral Act) and Lawyers' Guide do not require you to create an account. When you use these apps, the following information may be collected automatically, mainly through Google's advertising and billing SDKs described in Section 5:

• Device information (device model, operating system version, language, and screen size)
• Advertising identifier (Google Advertising ID / AD_ID), used to serve and measure ads
• Approximate location derived from IP address, used for ad relevance and consent requirements (we do not request precise GPS location in these apps)
• App usage and diagnostic data (crashes, performance)
• IP address (processed transiently by our service providers)

2.2 Information you provide directly

Some features ask you to type or submit information yourself. This includes: content you bookmark or highlight (stored only on your device), messages you send us through a contact form, and - for AskLegal specifically - the account and profile details described in Section 3.3. We do not collect information you do not choose to provide.

2.3 Information we do not collect

None of our reference apps or Lawyers' Guide access your camera, microphone, contacts, precise location, or files on your device, and none require you to create an account or sign in with your name, email, or phone number. Purchases (such as "remove ads" unlocks) are handled entirely by Google Play Billing - we never see or store your payment card details.

3. App-Specific Data Practices

3.1 Legal reference apps

Nigeria Criminal Code Act, Nigeria Penal Code Act, ACJA, 2015, Nigerian Evidence Act 2011, Nigerian Land Use Act, CAMA 2020, Electoral Actstore your bookmarks, highlights, reading position, and app settings only in local storage on your device. This data is never transmitted to us and is deleted if you uninstall the app or clear the app's storage. These apps show banner and interstitial ads through Google AdMob and offer an optional one-time in-app purchase to remove ads.

3.2 Lawyers' Guide

In addition to the local bookmarks, notes, favorites, and reading history described above, Lawyers' Guide includes:

• A multiplayer quiz feature. To match you with other players and keep leaderboards and friend challenges, the app signs you in anonymously using Firebase Authentication (no email or password is collected) and stores your chosen nickname, anonymous player ID, quiz scores, and challenge messages in Firebase Realtime Database.
• Push notifications for reminders and challenge alerts, delivered via Firebase Cloud Messaging.
• A "Contact Us" form. If you use it, the name, email address, subject, and message you type are sent to our support mailbox so we can respond to you. We also offer a Telegram link as an alternative way to reach us.

The in-app Legal Assistant / search feature in Lawyers' Guide works entirely offline - your questions are matched against content stored in the app and are never sent to us or to any third party.

3.3 AskLegal

AskLegal connects users with lawyers for legal questions and paid consultations, so it necessarily collects more information than our reference apps. If you create an AskLegal account, we (or the lawyers and staff who need it to provide the service) may process:

• Account and profile data: name, email address, phone number, date of birth, profile picture, and password (stored as a secure hash) - or, if you choose social sign-in, the basic profile information shared by Google, Apple, or Facebook
• Consultation content: chat messages, and audio or video from consultation calls with lawyers, plus scheduling and pricing details
• Lawyer-specific data (for users registering as lawyers): bar registration number, professional bio, and client ratings/reviews
• Payment and wallet information: transaction history, wallet balance, and linked bank account details, processed through Paystack (we do not store your full card details)
• Documents and images you upload (e.g. profile pictures or case documents), stored via Cloudinary
• Community content: posts and comments you post in community/discussion features
• Device permissions: camera and microphone (for video/audio consultations), approximate/precise location (to help find lawyers near you), and notifications

Authorized Lumos Global Studio staff can access AskLegal account and consultation data through an internal admin dashboard, solely to provide customer support, resolve disputes between users and lawyers, and manage payments.

3.4 ExamPrep: JAMB WAEC NECO

This app (com.lumosglobal.examprep) is a study app for JAMB UTME, WAEC, NECO and post-UTME past questions. It is published as ExamPrep: JAMB WAEC NECO on Google Play - where it was previously called PassMark - and as ExamPrep: JAMB WAEC NECO CBT on the App Store. It has no account system of any kind - there is nothing to sign into. Your quiz and mock exam history, scores, subject accuracy, questions answered wrong (for Review Mistakes), streaks, achievements, daily challenge state and appearance setting are written only to local storage on your device and are never transmitted anywhere. Resetting your progress from the Profile tab, or uninstalling the app, deletes all of it.

The one-time Pro unlock is processed by Google Play on Android and by Apple's App Store on iOS. Google or Apple handles your payment details directly - we never see them - and the app only receives the purchase record it needs to unlock Pro content and to confirm what you own.

The app contains no advertising SDK and no analytics or tracking SDK on either platform. On Android it requests only the standard INTERNET and ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE permissions; on iOS it requests no permissions at all.

3.5 UK Law Guide

UK Law Guide (com.lumos.uklawguide) is our study app for law students and legal professionals in the United Kingdom. It works offline, and it is the most privacy-protective app we publish: it has no user accounts and no sign-in, no analytics or crash-reporting service, and no advertising. We operate no backend that the app sends data to, so we do not collect, transmit, or store any personal information from it.

Everything you create in the app is written only to your device's private storage and is never sent to us:

• Notes and highlights - so your annotations persist between sessions
• Favourites and reading history - so you can return to material you have viewed
• Diary entries and reminders - to schedule the reminders you set
• Quiz, mock exam and revision progress - to track scores and schedule spaced repetition
• Qualifying Work Experience (QWE) log - to keep the record you enter
• Study plan and settings - to remember your preferences and jurisdiction

Uninstalling the app removes this data. If you have Android backup enabled, your device may copy it to your own Google account as part of the operating system's standard backup - that copy is governed by Google's terms, and we have no access to it. You can export your performance and QWE records to a CSV file yourself; those files go wherever you choose to save or send them.

The only third-party services the app uses are Google Play Billing, which processes premium purchases and subscriptions (Google handles your payment details directly - we never see them), and Google Play In-App Review and Updates, which provides the review prompt and update notices and is handled entirely by Google Play.

The app requests only these permissions: internet and network state, used to process purchases through Google Play (the legal content itself is bundled in the app and readable offline); notifications, to deliver the daily tip and any reminders you set; and run at startup and wake lock, so reminders you have scheduled still fire after the device restarts. Because we hold no personal data about you from this app, there is nothing for us to retrieve, correct, or erase on request - to remove everything it has stored, uninstall it.

Legal content and licensing. Legislation in UK Law Guide is Crown copyright, reproduced from legislation.gov.uk under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Case law is reproduced from Find Case Law under the Open Justice Licence v2.0. The app provides legal information for study purposes and is not legal advice.

3.6 Nigerian Court Rules

Nigerian Court Rules (Android and iOS: com.lumosstudio.courtrules) works fully offline and has no accounts or sign-in. The iOS app contains no advertising, analytics, tracking or crash-reporting services, and we do not collect, transmit or store any personal information. Bookmarks, highlights, recently viewed documents and reading settings are stored only on your device and are deleted if you uninstall the app.

The optional one-time "Pro" unlock is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store: we never see your payment details, and the app only checks your purchase with Apple to unlock content. To tell you when an update is available, the app asks Apple's public App Store lookup service for the latest version number; no personal information is sent. The optional weekly reminder is a notification scheduled on your device; no push notification service is used.

On Android, Nigerian Court Rules shows banner and full-screen ads through Google AdMob. Users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent first through Google's consent message, and can change their choice under Settings > Privacy options. Like the other apps with ads, AdMob may receive device information, the advertising ID, approximate location and ad interaction data (see Section 5). The optional one-time "Pro" purchase, processed by Google Play Billing, unlocks the State High Courts and removes all ads.

3.7 Lastwing (game)

Lastwing (com.lumosstudio.lastwing) is our arcade game. It contains no advertising, no analytics and no tracking software of any kind. Nothing about you is collected for marketing or profiling, and nothing is sold or shared with any third party for their own purposes.

Your progress - high score, best time, story progress, unlocked ships, statistics, settings and your local Hall of Fame - is stored only in the game's private storage on your device, and is deleted when you uninstall it.

The global Hall of Fame is optional. If you finish a qualifying run and choose to submit it, the game sends only: the three-letter name you type, your score, how long the run lasted, the level or wave you reached, the mode you played, the time of submission, and an anonymous player identifier. If you never submit a score, none of this is ever sent.

That identifier comes from Firebase Anonymous Authentication - a random value created for your installation. It is not your name, email address, phone number, Google account, advertising ID or any device serial number, and it cannot be used to identify you personally. Because the leaderboard is public, the three-letter name you type is visible to other players, so please do not type anything you would not want shown publicly.

Multiplayer. If you play over the internet or a local network, your device connects directly to a game server to exchange gameplay information such as ship positions and inputs. Your IP address is necessarily visible to that server for the duration of the session, as it is for any internet connection; it is not recorded, stored or linked to anything else, and no session data is retained after the session ends. The default server address is shown in the game and can be changed to one of your choosing.

The leaderboard runs on Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication and Cloud Firestore) acting as our data processor, and all transmission is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Entries are kept until you ask us to remove them or the leaderboard is retired; each installation has one entry, so beating your own score replaces it rather than adding a new one. To have your entry and its anonymous identifier deleted, email lumosglobalstudio@gmail.com with the three-letter name you used and roughly when you posted it - we do not need anything else from you.

4. How We Use Information

• To operate the core features of each app
• To show and measure ads, and to remember your ad-free purchase
• To operate multiplayer, leaderboard, and notification features in Lawyers' Guide
• To match users with lawyers, process payments, and enable consultations in AskLegal
• To respond to messages you send us
• To maintain security, prevent fraud and abuse, and diagnose technical issues
• To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services. Each processes data under its own privacy policy, linked below:

• Google AdMob & Google Play Billing- ad serving, measurement, and in-app purchases (all reference apps, Lawyers' Guide and Nigerian Court Rules on Android; ExamPrep uses Google Play Billing on Android and Apple's App Store on iOS, and has no advertising SDK; UK Law Guide has no ads at all) - Google Privacy Policy

• Google Play In-App Review & Updates - review prompts and update notices, handled entirely by Google Play (UK Law Guide and several reference apps)

6. Data Sharing & Disclosure

We share information only:

• With the service providers listed in Section 5, solely to provide the functionality described above
• In AskLegal, between a user and the specific lawyer they are consulting, as necessary to provide the consultation
• If required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Lumos Global Studio, our users, or the public
• In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to affected users where required by law

7. Data Retention

Locally stored data (bookmarks, notes, settings) remains on your device until you delete the app or clear its storage. Lawyers' Guide multiplayer data and AskLegal account data are retained for as long as your account is active, and for a limited period afterward to comply with legal, tax, or dispute-resolution obligations, after which it is deleted or anonymized.

8. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures - including encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls on our admin systems - to protect information against unauthorized access, alteration, or loss. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

9. Your Rights & Choices

• Ad personalization:you can opt out of personalized ads and reset or delete your Advertising ID in your device's system settings (Settings → Privacy → Ads, on Android)
• Access, correction, or deletion: you can request a copy of, correction to, or deletion of your personal information by emailing us at lumosglobalstudio@gmail.com. AskLegal users can also delete their account from within the app.
• Purchases: managed entirely through your Google Play account
• If you are in the EEA, UK, or a jurisdiction with similar laws (e.g. GDPR), you may also have rights to data portability and to object to or restrict certain processing. If you are a California resident, you may have rights under the CCPA/CPRA to know, delete, or opt out of the sale/sharing of your personal information - we do not sell personal information.

10. Children's Privacy

Our apps are intended for a general audience and are not directed at children under 13 (or the applicable age of consent in your country). Our reference apps and Lawyers' Guide do not knowingly collect personal information from children. AskLegal is intended for adults seeking legal services, and UK Law Guide is intended for law students and legal professionals; neither is directed at children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at lumosglobalstudio@gmail.com and we will delete it.

11. International Data Transfers

We and our service providers (see Section 5) operate globally. Your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than your own, including Nigeria and the United States, which may have different data protection laws than your country of residence. Where required, we rely on our providers' standard contractual safeguards for such transfers.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our apps or for legal reasons. We will update the "Effective date" above when we do. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice where appropriate (such as an in-app notice).
